Giving Women is a giving circle in Oberlin, Ohio.
Founded in 2009, we are a philanthropic community of women, who, through our giving projects, gain an understanding of the needs in our community, build relationships, and provide resources that make a positive impact.
Some of the things we do:
We support Oberlin Community Services, and in 2009 we planted a community garden there. While organizing and working with volunteers from the community, Oberlin College, and OCS, we are able to provide fresh, organic produce to the food pantry. Our group purchased a rain barrel for the garden, volunteered time watering and weeding, purchased a refrigerator for OCS to house the fresh produce, and began funding the Garden Coordinator position in 2010. We’ll continue to fund this position for the 2012 growing season.
Through our Seed Grant Program, we have awarded small grants to Oberlin community members since 2011. The grants are intended to provide seed money for people who have innovative ideas that benefit the community of Oberlin.
We have also supported Family Promise of Lorain County and the Second Harvest Backpack Program, organizations that benefit families and children in need in our community.
